The Gear
Here’s everything I used to make this all possible
Hardware Details
-Sibelius music notation software (you may also want to try Finale)
-MBox 2 Audio Production System
-Edirol PC-50 midi controller (or any midi controller will do)
-Canon S-series digital camera.
-Camera tripod
-Creative GigaWorks T40 Computer Speakers (Anything will do, but I really really love these speakers! Best sounding non-professional speakers ever!)
-Heintzman & Co upright piano
First I film myself perform the song on the upright piano with the Canon mounted on the tripod.
Then I load the video onto my comp and do some rudimentary editing, and rip the audio into mp3.
I play the song again on the Edirol PC-50 into my Mbox, recording as MIDI into Pro Tools. This is exported as a midi file.
Finally, I import the midi file into Sibelius, which makes sheet music for you automatically.
I brush up the final results a bit, and that’s it!
Now you know my secrets.
