Yeah Sheetmusicguy, I see what you mean in your other post about how hard it is to capture Jay’s passion in this song. I personally don’t play piano and don’t have a strong music theory background, but yeah there is something elusive about that last chorus. I dunno about the drums/guitar part but it seems like the violin is a major factor in the feeling of that part. I think you did a good job on the arrangement but i can’t help but feel that something is missing in that last chorus. I dunno if this is possible but is it do-able to kinda drop out part of the bass in the chorus in favor of the violin? Jay’s voice and the violin really overpower it in the last chorus. Also when Jay sustains those long notes I was thinking maybe you could imitate that with some rising staccatos on the melody? like three in a row kinda, ba ba BA! haha, i don’t know if this even makes sense. I like how the pacing changes in the last chorus though, I feel that gives off some of Jay’s rise/fall in emotions.

    Hey DM,

Thanks for your comments and observations! A lot of the troubles come from the fact that in a real production you can continually build a song upwards with drums, violins, more passionate singing, etc…but with piano you really only have your two hands, and you can really only play so loud before it starts getting too aggressive. For me the best way to compensate was to make the previous chorus extra soft, so when it grows to the ‘normal’ chorus, it seems bigger by comparison.

To Diaoness, thanks for catching that mistake. Apparantly I can only count up to two….no wonder my rhythm sucks..lol. I’ve uploaded a fixed version of the sheet music.

I love this song! My brother and sister have always been the one I’m jealous of, since they could play such beautiful songs and I’m always the slower one for everything, But listening to this song…It makes me want to try harder to learn to play the piano ^.^

The author of www.sheetmusicguy.com has written an excellent article. You have made your point and there is not much to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: Stuff happens, then more stuff happens. Stuff will continue to happen until stuff stops happening. Thanks for the info.
