Request Guidelines

I’ve been steadily getting song requests now, which is both cool and flattering. Thanks! =)

Unfortunately, I can’t get to every request that is put through since doing all this takes quite a bit of time. This means I will need to be somewhat unfair and pick only the songs I think are best suited to put up on the site. Sorry guys. =(

If you’re wondering which songs get chosen and which don’t, I choose them with the following criteria:

1) Awesomeness
This one’s pretty easy. If the song is awesome, I will probably like it. If I like it, I will want to figure out how to play it, and by that point a good chunk of the work has been done already, and it’ll probably make it up here. This is obviously the most subjective criteria, since my idea of Awesomeness is probably slightly different from yours. Awesome!

2) Popularity
I want this work I’m doing to benefit as many people possible. To do this, I will tend to go for songs and artists that are extremely popular.

3) Longevity
If I choose an older song, I’ll try to pick something that still has a certain level of popularity despite it’s age. For newer songs, I’ll try to pick ones that seem like they’ll have a longer shelf-life. In essence, if a track has a “classic” air about it, I’ll lean towards choosing it. Putting out sheet music for a song with longevity will probably stay valuable longer. Michael Wong’s Tong Hua is a good example. Awesomeness and Longevity tend to overlap =)

4) New-ness
If a song is new, popular (and hopefully awesome), I’ll try to get on it as fast as I can, so I can help out the people who are still looking for it while it’s still “cool”.

Hopefully this helps give you some insight into the songs I choose and why!

Also note that the entire process of figuring out a song, arranging it, performing it, and sheet-music-ing it does take some time, so if you don’t hear anything for a while, it doesn’t necessarily mean I’m ignoring you!  Subscribe to the feed, check back once in a while, or better yet, leave your email!

Thanks!

Jay Chou - A Secret I Cannot Tell (不能说的秘密)

This is the hot(?) new track off Jay Chou’s new movie “Secret”, now translated for your listening and playing pleasure onto solo piano:

I’m still surprised at how fast this one came about. Figuring out, arranging, practicing and performing the song was done in one (full) day, and the sheet music was made the next day. Nice. =)

Also, it’s been one day since posting the Jay Chou megamix, and already it’s gotten pretty successful. Site traffic has quadrulpled, which sounds nice but isn’t really saying much. =)
I’ve actually gotten a handful of requests since then, and I’ll do my best to get them out the door! Thanks everybody!

Jay Chou - Black Humor (黑色幽默)

Not long after I posted the Jay Chou Piano MegaMix Vol 1 did I realize that I played Black Humor pretty much in full….which might explain why the mix was so long. Anyways, I decided to cut out just that part of the song (since I had everything for it anyways) and give it a post of it’s own.

This song is off Jay’s debut album, appropriately entitled “Jay Album”:

Enjoy!

Jay Chou - Piano MegaMix (Vol 1)

Here’s a medley I’ve created of early Jay Chou hits, from his first 4 albums. I figure this is easier than banging out each one individually, and I think it’s pretty cool how easily the songs blend together, although it is a wee bit longer than I would’ve liked.

Please let me know what you think….if it’s cool cuz it keeps changing, or if it drags because it’s too long. I’ll follow up with a medley of his later works if this format turns out to be successful, or I’ll break this video down and repost the individual songs.

Anyways, the songs included here, in no particular order:

Black Humour - 黑色幽默 : From the Jay Album
Cliff Of Love - 愛情懸崖: From the Ye Hui Mei album
In The Name Of The Father - 以父之名: Also from the Ye Hui Mei album
Silence - 安靜: From the Fantasy album
and of course,
Tornado - 龍捲風 : Also from the self-titled Jay Album

I’ve posted the sheet music for the entire medley, but I don’t have any plans to post sheets for each individual piece, unless somebody requests one specifically or I re-post the songs individually.
